Today, we are going to share an idea for using wine corks to make flowers.
At our golf club here in Spain (Golf Santa Marina), they very kindly keep the corks for us. So, we have a big supply to use!
Most of the cork flowers we’ve made are blue and yellow, but you can, of course, make them in other colours – we’ve also switched round the colours to make yellow flowers with a blue centre. Or a sunflower – yellow petals, with a brown centre.
I think it’s fairly obvious how to make these from the photos, but clear instructions are always useful!
- Choose six corks that are the same height and width.
- Paint the top of the cork as well as around 1 cm round the top part of the sides. Allow to dry.
- Using strong glue, glue the corks together round the middle cork. Allow to dry.
- Place on some plain, thin cardboard. Draw round the bottom of the flower. Cut the shape out and stick the flower to the card. Allow to dry.
- Take an eye hook and screw it into one of the corks, in the middle, right near the bottom (unpainted end).
- Hang your flower and admire!
We’ve been making lots of cork flowers to sell at the Nations Fair which will take place in Santander August 12th-29th! They’ll be on sale at the Ukrainian stall there and money raised will go towards helping refugees in the area as well as sending essentials to Ukraine.
